Services
You've worked hard to envision and draft your content. Now you need a trained eye to give you feedback and help you polish your product before you publish it. That's where I come in! I offer four types of services: proofreading, proofreading + content (line) editing, developmental editing, and copyediting for academic papers in the humanities and social sciences. Which service is right for you? Please see more detailed descriptions of each service below. Work samples demonstrating the difference between the level of feedback provided by basic proofreading versus proofreading + content editing can also be viewed on my Portfolio page (see Student Essay and Author Manuscript collections).

Proofreading + Content (Line) Editing
Content editing covers proofreading plus syntax analysis to enhance clarity, conciseness, smooth readability, voice, and style. I may also note undesirable elements like repeated word usage. The choice to accept or reject each suggestion is up to you. It's your publication!

Developmental Editing
Developmental editing is typically the first step in the editing process after a manuscript is drafted. For project content in the education industry, I provide technical edits as a subject matter expert and broader edits for consistency of project format, structure, style, and tone.
Specialties
While I am an avid learner willing to work on projects from a wide variety of genres and disciplines, my specialties lie in the following areas:
-
Education: With sixteen years of experience in the field of education serving as teacher, administrator, consultant, case manager, and intervention specialist, I am practiced in writing and editing education-based communication. In addition to content development, types of documents I can tailor for you include newsletters, promotional materials, marketing materials for special events, curriculum plans, outcome reports, and correspondence/records pertaining to Individualized Education Plans.
-
Diversity and Inclusion: As a former program manager for diversity and inclusion in the child care industry with a dual master’s degree in both education and special education, I have decades of experience addressing the unique needs of students and families from a wide variety of backgrounds. The APA style guidelines on bias-free language are my favorite resource for mindful messaging that portrays respect and inclusivity.
-
Health and Wellness: Health and wellness are important to me. I believe in the power of a balanced lifestyle and practice healthful living on a daily basis, so a good deal of my recreational reading is devoted to health-related topics. My studies in child development and psychology across the lifespan have proven invaluable as a teacher, parent, and evolving human on this journey we call life. After working in public services as a case manager and advocate for children with a wide array of health needs and later coordinating medical accommodations for hundreds of children ages 0-12 with medical conditions across child-care facilities nationwide, I now take even more interest in making health-related information accessible to all those who can benefit.
-
Academic Writing in the Social Sciences: Through my liberal arts degree in psychology and my dual graduate degree in education, I am practiced in student academic writing requiring APA and CMOS formatting (including in-text citations and reference lists). I enjoy supporting today's students following a similar track in the social sciences or humanities and keeping up with the latest research and developments within these fields of study.
